Indonesian cinema once again presents a story close to everyday life through “Agensi Rumah Tangga”. This comedy-drama directed by Naya Anindita explores issues concerning women, family, the world of work, as well as the relationship between employers and domestic workers.

The film follows Katia, played by Enzy Storia. After being laid off and still having to pay her mortgage installments, Katia chooses an unusual path. Instead of looking for another office job, she opens a domestic worker placement agency.

This decision brings her together with several domestic workers, each with their own personalities and problems. Over time, Katia’s relationship with them develops further until they are considered part of the family. However, Katia must then choose between maintaining her job and these relationships or pursuing the career her mother hopes for her: becoming a civil servant.

This situation leads Katia into various problems that combine comedy, family drama, romance and workplace issues. The film is adapted from the bestselling novel by Almira Bastari of the same title. The screenplay was written by Upi and Ayu Anggraini Putri.

Producer Chand Parwez said the film does not rely solely on comedy, but also presents a warm story and a social message close to people’s lives.

“This is a comedy film with comedy that is pretty crazy, but it is also warm, exciting, hilarious, and definitely touching. The story is also close to our everyday lives,” said Chand during the press screening in Jakarta.

Afgansyah Reza also stars as Kafka. For Afgan, the film is an opportunity to return to acting after previously appearing as a lead actor.

“When I was first offered the role of Kafka, I was really happy because I had indeed wanted to return to film, and it finally came true,” said Afgan.

In addition to Enzy and Afgan, this film produced by Starvision, Legacy Pictures, Vortera Studios, and Navvaros also features several female comedians. They include Ummi Quary, Neneng Wulandari, Boah Sartika, Dea Panendra, Musdalifah Basri, Astrid Juwita, Priska Baru Segu, Nury Zhafira, Mega Salsabila, and Nazira C. Noer.

Enzy believes the film also conveys a message about the importance of respecting every job carried out lawfully.

“In my opinion, no job is insignificant because honest work always has meaning, and you are certainly beneficial to your families as well as to yourselves,” said Enzy.

“Agensi Rumah Tangga” is scheduled to open simultaneously in cinemas throughout Indonesia starting Thursday, 10 September 2026. (Henry)
