What would happen if a gubernatorial candidate who was usually good at image-building suddenly could not lie at all? That is the chaos shown in the latest main trailer and poster for Bapak Paling Jujur, a comedy directed by Fajar Nugros that will hit cinemas starting 15 October 2026.

In the film, Andovi da Lopez plays Jonas Prakoso, a gubernatorial candidate who knows exactly how to win the people’s hearts. His neat appearance, smile in front of the camera, sweet promises, and image-building have all been carefully prepared. However, a curse from his grandmother causes Jonas to lose the ability to lie.

From that moment on, whatever is in his head comes straight out of his mouth. There is no filter and no made-up answer.

Secrets that should have been kept, thoughts that should have remained in his head, and various things that could make the situation even more complicated are all exposed. From campaign matters to his personal life, Jonas must face the consequences of honesty that comes without brakes.

“I was interested in the premise of BAPAK PALING JUJUR because the question is simple, but the consequences can go anywhere: what would happen if we truly could not filter what we wanted to say?” said Fajar Nugros, director of BAPAK PALING JUJUR.

“This story has already succeeded in Brazil and Korea, and now we are trying to bring it to Indonesia with characters and situations that are close to audiences here. For me, that is precisely where the comedy comes from,” he continued.

BAPAK PALING JUJUR is an adaptation of the South Korean film Honest Candidate (2020), which was followed by a sequel in 2022. The South Korean film itself is an adaptation of the Brazilian film O Candidato Honesto (2014).

After appearing in those two versions, the story of someone who suddenly loses the ability to lie is now being brought to Indonesia with characters, humor, and situations that are close to the everyday lives of Indonesian audiences.

“To be honest, making this trailer itself gave us quite a headache. We had to choose from the many chaotic situations Jonas experiences. If we included everything, the trailer might end up being longer than the film, hahaha,” said Aoura Lovenson Chandra, Producer of BAPAK PALING JUJUR.

“But that is precisely what makes it exciting. When someone can no longer filter what they want to say, everything becomes chaotic. Even something simple can turn into a major problem,” she added.
