Galeri Indonesia Kaya (GIK) presents a variety of performances and Ruang Kreatif programs throughout September 2026, inviting the public to get to know and directly experience the richness of Indonesia’s arts and culture.

The programs taking place throughout the month bring together various forms of art, ranging from music, dance and folklore to cross-media works, in formats that are closer to today’s audiences.

The September program opens on 5 September with Harmoni Nusantara, presented by Ikreasindo. The performance combines music and vocals from various regions, including the Janger song from Bali, and invites the audience to play the angklung together.

The following day, GIK and Jakarta Poetry Slam present “NgeZine Yuk! Dengan Ika Vantiani”. Participants are invited to express personal stories and experiences through zines using collage techniques and various creative media.

The Ruang Kreatif series continues with the Kelas Alat Musik Sape with musician and composer from North Kalimantan, Uyau Moris, on 7–10 September. Participants learn to play the sape, a traditional Dayak Kenyah plucked instrument, before presenting the results of their learning through a performance test on 12 September.

On the same day, Uyau Moris also presents Borneo Sounds of Heritage: Vibrasi Dawai Dayak, combining sape playing with modern music and taking the audience on a journey to learn about the cultural history of the Dayak people.

GIK then presents Live Podcast Cerita Rakyat with RAPOT, which explores the legend of Nyi Roro Kidul in podcast format. The Ruang Kreatif program also continues with Kelas Tari Gagak Koncar with Jugala Raya on 14–17 September.

The results of the class are presented on 19 September and also serve as the opening act for NISKALA – Suara Kepulauan by Svbito String Quartet feat Dhea Seto. The performance combines regional songs arranged for string quartet with dance interpretations.

To close the September series, GIK presents Warih, presented by Kelompok Kesenian Tambua Tansa Sabariyah, on 26 September. The performance explores the journey of the traditions of the people of Lake Maninjau and the process of passing culture down through generations. The group was established in 1994 and has now grown to its 10th generation.

Program Director Galeri Indonesia Kaya Renitasari Adrian said that the series was designed so that the public would not only watch arts and culture, but also become directly involved.

“Galeri Indonesia Kaya serves as a public space to introduce the richness of Indonesian culture while also exploring how traditions can remain relevant for today’s generations,” said Renitasari.

Through its series of performances and Ruang Kreatif programs, GIK seeks to present the culture of the archipelago as an experience that can be learned, appreciated and continued by the public.
