Garuda Indonesia, together with the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia and Mastercard, introduced the Garuda Indonesia Stopover Program, an initiative that integrates flight connectivity, destination development, and global market reach to encourage international travelers to explore more regions of Indonesia.

Through this program, international passengers on certain long-haul and regional routes who meet the criteria can add connecting domestic flights at no additional cost to participating destinations when booking their tickets. As a result, travelers can continue their journey from an international gateway to other destinations as part of a single trip.

The program is expected to shift travel patterns from visits focused on a single gateway to multi-destination journeys, while also encouraging travelers to extend their stays and increase shopping activities in the regions.

Based on BPS 2025 data presented in this collaboration, international tourist visits remain concentrated in Bali, with 6.9 million visits, and Jakarta, with 2.8 million visits. Through the Stopover Program, travelers will also be directed to several Priority Tourism Destinations, such as Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, and Labuan Bajo.

“Through the Garuda Indonesia Stopover Program, we want to provide added value to journeys to Indonesia by opening up more options for travelers to continue their domestic trips,” said Mukhtaris, Acting Director of Commerce of Garuda Indonesia.

The Ministry of Tourism considers cross-sector collaboration important for expanding the economic benefits of tourism. Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism Ni Made Ayu Marthini said the program could encourage international travelers to explore new destinations while expanding economic circulation for local communities and MSME operators.

Meanwhile, Mastercard will support the program through its global network and data-driven consumer insights. In the initial phase, promotions will target several markets, such as Singapore and Malaysia, as well as travelers in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and international travelers arriving in Bali.

The program is valid until the end of November 2026 through the official Garuda Indonesia website, the FlyGaruda application, and official travel agency partners, subject to the routes and destinations participating. (Risma)
