The local brand Ragam Bentala continues to bring batik closer to the lifestyle of younger generations through collections that are modern, casual, and easy to mix and match. Established in February 2020, the brand, founded by Anne SPC Aziz and Nur’aini JB, combines the richness of Nusantara motifs with the needs of everyday fashion.
Ragam Bentala believes that batik does not always have to be synonymous with formal attire. A variety of products such as Kebaya Encim, Rok Lilit Batik, Obi Belt Batik, Riung Tunik, and Kemeja Batik are designed to be worn on various occasions.
The name Ragam Bentala itself has a meaning that reflects the brand’s identity. “Ragam” represents color and diversity, while “Bentala” means earth. This philosophy is applied through the use of earth-tone colors and flexible fabric-based clothing collections.
Ragam Bentala Founder Anne SPC Aziz said that each product carries not only an aesthetic element, but also the stories of local artisans.
“Every piece of Ragam Bentala clothing carries the stories and sweat of traditional hand-stamped batik artisans in the region. For us, preserving batik is not only about design aesthetics, but also about creating jobs and ensuring the sustainability of the economic activities of the local artisans we support,” said Anne.
Growing through Digital Channels
Ragam Bentala has expanded its reach through digital channels by opening the Ragam Bentala Official Store on Shopee. The brand makes use of several features, such as Shopee Live, Shopee Video, and collaborations with creators through Shopee Affiliate.
Ragam Bentala also takes part in various Shopee campaign moments, including 11.11 Big Sale, 12.12 Birthday Sale, and Big Ramadan Sale. These activities are said to have helped increase traffic and sales performance compared with regular days.
Amid increasingly modern designs, Ragam Bentala’s production process continues to preserve the hand-stamped batik technique. The process includes developing designs and motifs, using a canting stamp and malam wax, dyeing, and producing garments together with local tailors.
Ragam Bentala Founder Nur’aini JB said that changes in the way young generations wear batik present an opportunity to introduce cultural heritage in a more relevant form.
“Batik and kebaya no longer have to be synonymous with formal events, but can become part of a casual, stylish personal style while still carrying Indonesian cultural identity,” she said.
The public can also find a variety of local batik products through the Shopee Festival Batik Nusantara until 2 October 2026, with more than 100 batik options, prices starting at Rp50 thousand, and discounts of up to 50%. (Risma)
