Jakartakita.com – Amid Jakarta’s rapid transformation into a Global City, the Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) South Jakarta Orda places great hopes in the DKI Jakarta ICMI Regional Deliberation (Muswil), which is planned to take place in early October 2026.

The Muswil is considered not merely a routine evaluation, handover of office, or consolidation of ideas. More than that, this event is a call from history as well as a spiritual and intellectual momentum to ensure that the flame of the struggle and ideals of ICMI’s founder, B.J. Habibie, continues to burn.

Secretary of the South Jakarta ICMI Orda, Emi Sonia Fransiska, expressed her view that the leadership succession within DKI Jakarta ICMI must be fully aligned with the founder’s grand vision.

“I place great hopes in the successors to the leadership of DKI Jakarta ICMI. The upcoming Muswil is a platform to ensure that the organization’s direction remains a moral and intellectual compass, while being able to produce leaders who are steadfast in their faith and piety, excel in science and technology, and sincerely serve the nation,” Sonia stressed.

Sonia also reminded everyone that the Muswil is a moment of reflection for all cadres to assess the extent to which they have preserved Habibie’s legacy of values. Therefore, she hopes that the new Chair of the DKI Jakarta ICMI Orwil will possess not only organizational managerial skills, but also a high sensitivity of conscience. The elected leader is expected to care about the driving force of the organization at the regional level (Orda) and to be capable of making a tangible contribution to society at large.

She reiterated B.J. Habibie’s message that an intellectual must never be confined to the ivory tower of intellectualism. Intellectuals must be willing to engage with society and act as an oasis of solutions to the various problems faced by the people and the nation.

Furthermore, Habibie’s leadership example of always embracing others and building bridges of dialogue must be revived. Whoever is later entrusted with leading DKI Jakarta ICMI must be able to weave collaboration across generations—from academics and professionals to young people—to engage with and take action at the grassroots level together.

“Hopefully, the results of the upcoming DKI Jakarta Muswil will produce a leader who brings ICMI to be not only a forum for thinkers and activists to gather, but also a house of struggle that upholds spiritual depth, intellectual maturity, and moral awareness,” Sonia concluded.
