Thales and Danantara Forge Strategic Partnership in AI, Defense, and Cybersecurity

Danantara Indonesia and Thales signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), defense systems, digital technology, and cybersecurity.

The partnership serves as an initial framework for exploring investment opportunities in strategic technology sectors considered capable of supporting the strengthening of innovation capacity, domestic industry, and national resilience.

Thales has been present in Indonesia for nearly 50 years, bringing expertise in defense, aerospace, cybersecurity, and digital solutions for critical operational environments.

Through the MoU, several areas of potential cooperation to be explored include defense technology manufacturing, maintenance and service facilities, airport security systems, AI application development, cybersecurity operations centers, and post-quantum technology.

The partnership also opens opportunities for collaboration with several state-owned enterprises within the Danantara Indonesia ecosystem operating in related sectors.

Ricardo Irwan Rei, Managing Director Strategic Technology Initiatives, CTO Office, Danantara Indonesia, said that investment in advanced technology and critical infrastructure could have an impact on the development of the national industry.

“Investment in advanced technology, digital capabilities, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure will help accelerate technology transfer, create highly skilled jobs, strengthen domestic industrial capabilities, and support sustainable and high-quality economic growth in Indonesia,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senior Vice-President Asia and Latin America Thales Group Guy Bonassi said the cooperation marked Thales’ first step with Danantara in strategic sectors such as AI and defense.

Thales brings nearly five decades of experience in Indonesia, along with technology in defense, digital solutions, and security to support the development of local industrial capabilities.

This MoU remains an initial framework. Any more specific investment plans and projects will undergo further evaluation, comply with applicable governance provisions, and be subject to definitive agreements between the parties. (Risma)
