The space for Indonesian independent designers and fashion brands continues to grow. One example is The Canopy Room, a fashion destination that brings together a number of local brands in one curated space. After establishing itself as a platform for the work of independent designers, The Canopy Room has now opened its first store at Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta.

The opening marks a new step for The Canopy Room in expanding public access to the work of Indonesian independent brands. The concept goes beyond simply providing a shopping space; it also introduces the identity, stories, and character behind each curated brand.

The Canopy Room Creative Director, Anita Anastasia, said that opening the store at Plaza Indonesia is part of an effort to bring independent brands closer to consumers.

“The presence of The Canopy Room at Plaza Indonesia is an important step for us in bringing more independent brands closer to the public. We want to create a space where people can come, discover new brands, learn their stories, and find something that suits their style. We hope The Canopy Room can become a destination that makes discovering fashion feel more personal,” said Anita.

Located in one of the shopping centers that forms part of Jakarta’s urban lifestyle district, The Canopy Room targets consumers with an interest in fashion, trends, and new brands.

The selection of brands presented has diverse characteristics. For a smart-casual style, for example, visitors can find collections from Dirty Laundry, Wear Alter, and Luce and Vera that can be worn for professional activities or business meetings.

Meanwhile, Aequus, Ammartera, and Prine offer options with feminine silhouettes that can be worn to formal events and various special occasions.

For consumers who favor a minimalist and flexible style, The Canopy Room presents Orgeo, Maison Kolori, Onze Studio, and Rotouche. These collections can be paired with accessories from Abstrak and Your Hands to complete everyday looks.

Consumers looking for a more edgy and effortless style can find options from Isoos Studio and Rauv for various casual occasions.

The available collections are not limited to clothing. The Canopy Room also presents bags and shoes from Page and Lane, YEVA, Scilla, and Orbit Studio, allowing consumers to complete their looks in one destination.

Elevating Local Materials in Contemporary Design

Support for local creativity at The Canopy Room is expressed not only through its curation of Indonesian fashion brands. The identity of the space is also strengthened through collaboration with creators from different disciplines.

For the facade of its store at Plaza Indonesia, The Canopy Room collaborated with set designer Nelly Sucitas. The collaboration resulted in an installation that uses local botanical materials processed through a contemporary design approach.

Created specifically for The Canopy Room, the installation uses banana stem fibers processed into natural fiber. The material is then arranged into visual elements that combine organic characteristics with architectural forms.

Nelly explores textiles as a structure of matter, namely a surface formed from various interwoven elements. This idea is translated through an arrangement of fibers left hanging, organic weaves, and sections that unravel again into natural fringe.

The curved form at the top of the installation provides a contrast to the geometric lines of the Plaza Indonesia facade. The use of natural materials also gives the store’s appearance a warmer character.

This approach demonstrates how materials that have traditionally been considered simple can acquire new functions and character through the design process.

Offering a More Personal Fashion Experience

The opening of The Canopy Room’s first store was also enlivened by a styling session with fashion personalities Jovi Adhiguna and MJ Sehonanda on 18-19 September 2026.

Through the session, visitors could explore collections from the various available brands while gaining more personal styling inspiration.

For The Canopy Room, this experience is part of an effort to build a closer relationship between designers and consumers. Interaction is built not only through products, but also through the stories, experiences, and identities attached to each brand.

Anita said that the company wants to make The Canopy Room a space where people can discover brands and work they may not have known before.
