ParagonCorp and the Pusat Riset Mikrobiologi Terapan, Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), are strengthening their research collaboration through the signing of a Perjanjian Kerja Sama (PKS) on the research, development, and utilization of microalgae as raw materials for the cosmetics industry.
The collaboration, signed on 1 September 2026 at the ParagonCorp Head Office, Jakarta Selatan, is part of an effort to strengthen Research and Development (R&D) capabilities while connecting research results with industry needs.
For ParagonCorp, science-based innovation is not only about producing new products or technologies, but also about building knowledge through systematic research, testing, and evaluation.

Deputy CEO and Chief R&D Officer ParagonCorp, dr. Sari Chairunnisa, Sp.D.V.E., FINSDV, said the collaboration with BRIN opens up opportunities for knowledge exchange between researchers and industry teams.
“Collaboration with BRIN provides space for industry teams and researchers to exchange perspectives, enrich their views of the research process, and build capabilities that can support the development of innovation in the future,” said Sari.
Under this collaboration, BRIN contributes expertise in bioprospecting and microalgae development, while ParagonCorp has experience in evaluating raw materials and applying them to the needs of the cosmetics industry. This combination enables the research process to consider both scientific aspects and the needs of industrial application.
One of the initial implementations is research on local Indonesian microalgae with the potential to be developed as raw materials for the cosmetics industry. The research is being conducted to gain a deeper understanding while identifying potential raw material candidates for further development.
Senior Researcher BRIN, Rahmania Admirasari, said collaboration between research institutions and industry can enrich the perspectives of both parties. Researchers can understand industry needs, while industry gains a deeper scientific understanding.

This collaboration is also aimed at building a bridge between the discovery process and industry needs. Head of the Pusat Riset Mikrobiologi Terapan BRIN, Dr. Ahmad Fathoni, M.Eng., said the collaboration is an initial step toward bringing together the human resources, knowledge, facilities, materials, and technological capabilities of both parties.
The research offers opportunities to produce scientific knowledge on local microalgae, candidates for cosmetic raw materials, and other research outputs such as joint publications and patents. Each output will be developed gradually based on the research findings and scientific validation process.
The collaboration between ParagonCorp and BRIN is expected to strengthen the national research and innovation ecosystem by bringing together the strengths of research institutions and industry needs. The utilization of Indonesia’s biological resources is also directed toward producing knowledge and innovation with added value. (Henry)
